What is a Carer's Assessment?

Most Carer's have a legal right to an assessment of their own needs.

Its your chance to discuss with Social Services what help you need with caring. You can discuss anything that would help your health and balance caring with other aspects of your life, such as work and family.

You should be able to have a seperate assessment if:

  • You are providing regular and substansial care to someone.
  • As part of the process of assessment when someone you are looking after is being discharged from hospital.
You may also be eligable for respite care.
Respite care is available for those people providing regular and substansial care to someone so that they can take a break from the pressures of care.
